Meet Rachel, a high school senior and Gumby, the largest horse I've ever seen. Being a city girl and unused to being around horses, maybe he just seemed huge to me! We met on a beautiful, if humid, August day for the session at the stables where she's kept Gumby for the past few years. I think it's great when a senior portrait session really reflects the personality of the Senior and Rachel has spent a good part of her young life around horses. She's also seriously stylish, as you'll see in the photos below -- I loved her gorgeous red dress!

Sara’s Senior Portraits: Raleigh Senior Portrait Photography

I met Sara when she was working for Forever Bridal at one of the bridal shows. She approached our booth and asked if we did Senior Portraits and if so, would I be willing to do hers. Of course I said an enthusiastic yes. It took a while, because as it turns out, today's 17-year-olds are like, super busy, but we finally got together for her portrait session.

(I'd love to think I was this gorgeous, smart, and talented when I was 17...but there are too many of my high school friends on Facebook who can contradict me!)

Love this yummy light. And Sara's sense of style!

Sara really, really wanted to go inside this old house, but it was super scary and looked like the porch could fall down any minute. So we had to make do by using the outside of the house as a prop.

We headed downtown for the rest of the session. Sara is a talented ice-skater and competed when she was younger. I love for Seniors to express their personality in the session by wearing the clothes they love and including things, like ice skates, that mean the most to them.

Cameron: the Music Man

In just a few days, Cameron will be off to Western Carolina to study Musical Theatre. I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with him and his mom (along with assistants extraordinaire Kat and Peter) in downtown Raleigh before he heads off.

Cameron hadn't yet turned 18 yet when I photographed him, but when I asked him to lay down beside the "17" in the parking lot, he suggested the "18" instead, "because I'll get to use it longer." Ah, youth...always wanting to be older than you are! This is one of my favorites (and you were right, Cameron).

Cameron's been in three musicals and three plays, including The Music Man. He lists Barefoot in the Park and Macbeth among his favorites.

If you managed to get his iPod away from him, you'd hear Jason Mraz and Jamie Cullum (one of my favorites too) mixing it up with plenty of acoustic guitar and jazz and naturally, lots of "Broadway stuff."

When I asked Cameron to tell me about his career plans (one of those lame questions adults love to ask) he said simply,

"I want to perform. I want to be happy. I want to be on Broadway." I have no doubt he will succeed!
